Unfortunately, it has almost become a โ€œnewโ€ norm to find ourselves being pulled in multiple directions. A variety of obligations, responsibilities and daily distractions all demand an increased amount of our attention, energy and time. 

I often hear clients say they are frustrated, anxious and completely exhausted at the end-of-the-day because they just donโ€™t know where or how to start making changes to simplify and organize their life. But, it just doesnโ€™t have to be this way.

We deserve to have time and energy to do the things we want and love to do.

#1: We experience less stress

We automatically feel less stressed when we have less clutter and everything is neat and organized. No longer does our cortisone increase when having to search for common items such as our keys, wallets, important papers, messages, phone charger or phones.

When everything has a home it is easy to find our things, easy to put away our things, and easy to keep our space tidy.

#2:  We become proactive and mindful with our time

When we arenโ€™t distracted by constant clutter and distractions, we become proactive and can plan our day more efficiently. Keeping schedules up-to-date allows us to be in control of our time and helps to increase our productivity. A big bonus to this is that after a short time, we can allocate and block out time for the priorities in our life, including self-care activities.

There are many different time trackers, daytimers and schedule organizers to help with this, and finding a system that works best for you is important.

I personally love Bullet Journaling and have been using this method for years. However, instead of using an actual journal, I use a binder system as I find it gives me more flexibility and can easily be changed and built upon as I need.

The beauty of Bullet Journaling is that you can create personalized pages and a system that completely caters to your needs. It is not โ€˜boundโ€™ by any pre-set pages, space or pre-determined topics โ€“ giving you full creative control.

We all know that surprises, last-minute requests or urgent changes occur more often than not. But, when we are organized, we are much better prepared to handle this with grace as we are less distracted by physical or digital clutter that causes mental exhaustion. We experience more patience and are ready to tackle the task at hand.

Studies have shown that being organized and creating a simpler lifestyle has demonstrable health benefits.

Better organization habits lead to improved eating habits, increased exercise and more peaceful sleep which all help to lower stress levels. As such, our immune system becomes stronger, and we are less likely to feel anxious or depressed.

Like with any healthy habit, it sets up positive reinforcement and a trickle-down effect that spills over into other areas of our life.

Having your life running smoothly, means youโ€™re much calmer and in a better mental position to deal with things. You can look at your to-do list without panicking because you know you have the time and energy to do it and youโ€™ll be able to tackle the list task-by-task without feeling overwhelmed.

At first, it may seem counter-intuitive, but putting effort into removing clutter and being organized will help create more energy and increased productivity in your life. Everything carries a certain energy and the more we are surrounded with clutter and distractions, the more โ€˜heavyโ€™ the energy around you will feel.

When clutter is cleared up, we instantly feel more energetic, focused and can concentrate on things that are a priority to us.

Create new space for yourself by decluttering and you will quickly notice how your energy and mood improves!
